The Zimbabwe Climate Change Coalition

About

The Zimbabwe Climate Change Coalition established in 2011, is a voluntary coordinating body of organisations concerned with environmental resilience and climate change. This is within the context of pursuing inclusive and sustainable socio-political and economic development in Zimbabwe. The coalition provides a platform for stakeholders to network and engage to share, generate and co-create ideas and knowledge-based largely on their own knowledge and experiences in relevant fields.

The networking and engagement are expected to stimulate and facilitate collaborative partnerships which are a critical element underpinning the coalition’s work at all levels. The coalition promotes partnerships and alliances at all levels, thereby building consolidated energy as agents of change in pursuit of transformative impact on aspects such as in policies, institutions, human capital and technologies and operational practices in advancing people-centered green economic growth and development. The Southern Africa Climate Change Coalition

Mission

  • ZCCC’s mission is to support and empower civil society organisations & NGOs to influence the design and development of an effective global strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ensure its implementation at national and local levels in the promotion of equity and sustainable development.
  • Promote coordination, networking, collaboration and partnerships between and amongst interest groups, individuals and stakeholders including governments, the private sector, and civil society; nationally, regionally, and continentally active in climate change and environmental resilience aspects within the context of sustainable economic growth and inclusive development.
  • Build platforms for learning and innovation.
  • Facilitate climate–resilient development.

The coalition's objectives are to

  • Promote coordination, strategic networking, collaboration and partnership development between and amongst development partners and other key stakeholders including Government, private sector and legislators nationally, continentally and internationally.
  • To fight dangerous climate change through awareness and capacity building of communities.
  • To protect the global climate from dangerous human interference.
  • To be the conscience of the nation concerning issues of climate change.
  • To promote the protection of the global climate from dangerous human interference; and so to facilitate the radical transformation in the way we use resources, the land and energy.
  • Promote sustainable development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
  • To inspire government, business, communities, and individuals action to this effect.
  • Develop an objective understanding of climate change and its causes, and share this information with all people, especially all members. Continue reading.

The Coalition strategies are as follows

  • Facilitate the building of members’ capacities and resource bases so that they effectively respond to socio-economic and environmental development challenges in their various areas of operations.
  • Foster multi-institutional action to generate problem-solving knowledge and partnerships and synergies to act at scale for enhancing sustained development.
  • Contributing to informed public dialogue and public opinions on environmental resilience and green development issues.
  • Promoting and supporting enabling institutional and policy reforms for scaling-up sustained development.
  • Provide an open, diverse and inclusive multi-stakeholder platform to foster dialogue and action among members on socio-economic and environmental development issues.
  • Leverage multi-institutional action to generate problem-solving knowledge and partnerships, and synergies to act at scale for enhancing sustainable development.
  • Contribute to informed public dialogue and public opinions on green development issues.
  • Scale up climate change, environmental, and sustainable development initiatives at the national level building on existing national partnerships and networks. Continue reading.
