The Southern Africa Climate Change Coalition established in 2014, is a voluntary co-ordinating regional body of participating registered and non-registered organizations concerned with environmental resilience in the light of the region’s sustainable and environmentally-friendly economic growth and inclusive development. It is important to emphasize that human well-being and inclusive prosperity is the ultimate goal. The Coalition is open to all interested individuals, organizations, and interest groups from national and regional levels; from public, private, and civil society. It is a membership-driven establishment providing for self-regulation, coordination, and harmonization as well as facilitation of cross-learning, networking as well as building joint or collaboration actions.

SACCC members are expected to foster within their programs as well as in their environment economic growth and development pathways which while advancing human well-being, remain consistent with natural and ecosystem resilience objectives including ensuring alignment with climate change mitigation and adaptation measures.SACCC pays particular attention to efforts aimed at empowering the usually marginalized sections of society including rural areas,female headed households and youth. Zimbabwe Climate Change Coalition

The networking and engagement are expected to stimulate and facilitate collaborative partnerships which are a critical element underpinning the coalition’s work at all levels. The coalition promotes partnerships and alliances at all levels, thereby building consolidated energy as agents of change in pursuit of transformative impact on aspects such as in policies, institutions, human capital and technologies and operational practices in advancing people-centered green economic growth and development. Environmental protection, climate resilience, and natural resources management are the key enablers for the attainment of sustainable development goals(SDGs).The global agenda on SDGs 11,12,13,14 and 15 speak to environmental protection and targets climate resilience, sustainable production, sustainable use of both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, reversing land degradation, and addressing biodiversity loss.

The coalition’s mission is to:

  • Promote coordination, networking, collaboration and partnerships between and amongst interest groups, individuals and stakeholders including Governments, private sector and civil society; nationally, regionally and continentally active in climate change and environmental resilience aspects within the context of sustainable economic growth and inclusive development
  • Promoting and supporting enabling institutional and policy reforms for scaling-up sustainable development

The objectives of SACCC are to:

  • Strengthen capacity building and awareness on climate change adaptation and mitigation  Promoting the reduction of greenhouse gases and alternative energy sources
  • Advocate for the ratification,domesticating,implementing and monitoring multilateral environmental agreements
  • Through access to relevant knowledge and information facilitate empowerment of local communities in their pursuit of socio-economically enabling and environmental sustainability goals.
  • Facilitate open platforms for Action-learning and innovation
  • Advocate and lobby for an inclusive and sustained development.
  • Promote and facilitate networking and peer learning in support of multi-sectoral , transboundary accelerated implementation of national and regional sustainable and climate resilience programs.
  • Facilitate the collaboration and coordination between agencies actively involved in green development.
  • Promote a climate smart and environmentally friendly agriculture
  • Promote continuous dialogue and engagement between member states by sharing information about policies and experiences on socio-economic and environmental challenges in the region.
  • Promote environmentally friendly approaches to food production

The SACCC will affiliate to and collaborate with like-minded national, regional, continental as well as global/international organisations and stakeholder groups as would be endorsed by the Coalition membership

The Core business of the coalition is:

  • Facilitating and supporting networking and increased access to information and knowledge among members
  • Profer policy options and alternatives
  • Fostering Policy advocacy and lobbying
  • Research and development
  • Facilitate learning and Capacity Building

Organizational Principles/ Values

Core values represent the guiding principles of the organizational culture, including what guides members’ priorities and actions within the organization. To transform sustainability into opportunities, we not only need people with the right skills, but also with the right values. We have defined our key values as Inspire, engage, create and deliver with trust, respect, transparency & accountability to our stakeholders, community sustainability and Social justice, continuous learning across all our work, Recognition of power relations, engaging plurality of partners and perspectives, Compliance as central threads

The Structures of SACCC

The structures of SACCC shall be the Annual General Meeting(AGM); national Committees and the secretariat. The AGM shall be the supreme organ of the coalition and shall comprise of official delegates from all member organizations with voting rights.

The Coalition is open to all interested individuals, organizations and interest groups from national and regional levels; from public, private, and civil society
