Chiwenga has launched the Integrated Typhoid Conjugative Vaccination (TCV) Campaign which is going to run from 24 May to 4 June 2021, in a bid to improve the quality of life of Zimbabwean citizens particularly children by protecting them from disease outbreaks like Typhoid using vaccines.

MINISTER LAUNCHES COVID-19 IEC MATERIALS

As further testimony of the ministry’s commitment to curbing the spread of Covid-19 in schools and the community, the Hon. Minister N. C. G. Mathema officially launched the Covid-19 information, education and communication (IEC) materials at Rusununguko High School.

The IEC materials which were developed by the ministry in conjunction with education cluster partners carry messages ranging from how the disease is spread, how to protect oneself and others and how to know if one is infected. The Minister stressed that protecting learners meant protecting citizens.

Recently, President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially opened United Bulawayo Hospitals Orthopaedic Centre and COVID-19 isolation centre in Bulawayo as part of Government’s thrust in adding more health infrastructure in line with Vision 2030.

President Mnangagwa expressed his gratitude in commissioning such health infrastructure which was put in place with a view to transform public health.

Schools across the country re-opened for examination classes on the 28th of September following a lengthy Covid-19 induced closure. Although schools offering Cambridge examinations re-opened on the 14th of September, the spotlight was on the public schools which had been closed since the 24th of March when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country culminating in the declaration of a countrywide lockdown initially for twenty-one days.

The re-opening for examination classes, Phase one according to the new calendar, is meant to give the learners time for face-to-face lessons before ZIMSEC examinations commence on the 1st of December.

In 2018, 30,000 pupils, 600 teachers, and their families at 100 rural schools in 4 provinces and 6 districts gained access to safe water supply and appropriate sanitary facilities. Also in 2018, 200 teachers were trained in child-friendly teaching methodologies.

These activities were carried out under the auspices of the WASH, Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Programme funded by Germany with a focus on supporting the drilling boreholes and rehabilitating existing ones. The 4 provinces and 6 Districts included Manicaland with 12 schools in Chipinge: Matebeleland North with 19 schools in Binga, Masvingo with 9 schools in Chiredzi and 19 schools in Mwenzi and Midlands with 29 schools in Gokwe North and 15 in Gokwe South.

Radio Lessons Programme

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education's Radio Lessons Programme has entered its third phase, which runs over 5 to 6 weeks. The radio lessons which are offered in conjunction with ZBC and UNICEF, come as part of the alternative learning platform in the wake of the disruptions caused by the Covi-19 pandemic.

The Radio Lessons Schedule covers the period from the 13th - 24th July 2020. Thereafter, another schedule will be released. Parents and guardians are advised to familiarise themselves with the schedule so that they may assist their children as much as possible.
