What is the purpose of CSTL?
CSTL is the abbreviation used for Care and Support for Teaching and Learning. CSTL is a structure through which Ministries of Education of the SADC Member States can lead and coordinate the range of care and support services delivered to regional schools. Through the relationship that exists between education, health and socio-economic development CSTL provides a support framework that assists SADC Member States in not only meeting their education mandates but bridging the gap between as well.
The primary function of CSTL is to strengthen schools to create enabling and supportive environments to identify and assess vulnerable learners, ensuring that their material and basic survival needs are met. It is to create learning environments that are gender-sensitive, safe and free from stigma, discrimination and abuse. As well as building capacity in educators, parents, community members and learners to cope and respond effectively to social and educational challenges.
