What is climate change?

What is climate change?

Climate change refers to an ongoing trend of changes in the earth’s general weather conditions as a result of an average rise in the temperature of the earth’s surface often referred to as global warming.

How can teachers be more effective in teaching about climate change?

Teachers can be more effective in teaching about climate change by incorporating hands-on activities and experiments that simulate climate phenomena, using inquiry-based learning methods, and making the topic relevant and engaging for students.

1. It is important for teachers to have a strong understanding of the science of climate change themselves, so they can effectively teach the subject matter.

2. In addition, teachers should receive training and professional development opportunities that focus on climate change education, including in-service refresher courses and preservice teacher training programs.

3. Integrating diverse perspectives and resources, such as institutional archives and instructors from different academic disciplines, can also enhance the effectiveness of climate change education.

4. Furthermore, teachers' beliefs and perceptions about climate change can influence their classroom management practices and students' awareness of the issue, highlighting the need for regular training and re-training on climate change for teachers.

5. Finally, it is important for teachers to critically examine the controversy surrounding climate change and to use educational practices such as Philosophy for Children, place-responsive pedagogies, and Critical Indigenous Pedagogy to help students understand the topic in a critical and informed manner.
