Mission

Emmaus International’s mission is to:

- Promote environmental sustainable development.

- Educate citizens about the environmental and economic threats posed by climate change.

- Towards a climate-resilient development.

- To work with grassroots communities in neglected, poverty-stricken areas using indigenous knowledge systems to create just, positive, and sustainable changes to society and the environment through empowering partnerships and responsible action.

- We holistically integrate our interventions to address the basic needs of those living in specific communities. The conviction guides us that each community has unique challenges and thus should take the lead in setting up priority areas that need urgent interventions. Our model is to reach out across boundaries, empowering and letting the vulnerable speak out for themselves.


Introduction

Emmaus International established in 2003 and officially registered in 2005 is a non-profit making organization concerned with environmental resilience in the light of global sustainable and environmentally-friendly economic growth and inclusive development. It is important to emphasize that human well-being and inclusive prosperity is the ultimate goal. Emmaus International fosters within its programs as well as in its environment economic growth and development pathways which while advancing human well-being, remain consistent with natural and ecosystem resilience objectives including ensuring alignment with climate change mitigation and adaptation measures. Emmaus International pays particular attention to efforts aimed at empowering the usually marginalized sections of society including rural areas, women, children, and youth.

Collaborative partnerships are one such critical element that underpins our work at all levels. In this light, Emmaus International champions the promotion of national, regional, and international partnerships, collaboration, and peer learning in fostering action on various aspects such as policy reforms, alignment, and coherence, institutional and human capacity development as well as technology development and innovations.

Emmaus International shall work with partner organizations that share the same vision, mission, objectives, and values in addressing socioeconomic and environmental issues globally. Emmaus International shall promote community participation across the globe and shall seek opportunities for innovative cross-regional/international collaboration and partnerships that shall inspire and raise the profile of its engagement on socio-economic and environmental development.

ObjectivesThe objectives of Emmaus International are to:

- Through access to relevant knowledge and information facilitate empowerment of local communities in their pursuit of socio-economically enabling and environmental sustainability goals.

- Facilitate open platforms for Action-learning and innovation.

- Advocate and lobby for an inclusive and sustained development.

- Promote and facilitate networking and peer learning in support of multi-sectoral, transboundary accelerated implementation of national and international sustainable and climate resilience programs.

- Facilitate the collaboration and coordination between agencies actively involved in green development.

- Promote a climate smart and environmentally friendly agriculture.

- Promote continuous dialogue and engagement between stakeholders by sharing information about policies and experiences on socio-economic and environmental challenges across the globe.

- Sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, stem biodiversity losses.

- End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

- Promote and ensure environmental sustainability and sustainable use of natural resources.

The organization shall affiliate to and collaborate with like-minded national, regional, continental as well as global/international organizations and stakeholder groups as would be endorsed by the Board of Trustees.
