Ntokozo Nyathi is a social worker, Founder and Executive Director of Youth Support Network Trust. An organization led by young people with mental health lived experiences for youths with mental illness. He was diagnosed with major depression and anxiety disorder in 2018 while he was studying for his social work undergraduate degree and his journey ever since exposed him to several challenges experienced by persons with mental disorders within and outside of the mental health sector. Disgruntled by the dearth of youth mental health services in and outside schools, the stigma and discrimination towards people with mental illness he founded this organization to pilot and scale up youth mental health innovations to ensure that youths are better supported and cared for in schools and communities. He has worked in the mental health field since 2018. As a social worker he has 4 years of experience working with vulnerable and marginalized communities through organizations such as Childline Zimbabwe, JF Kapnek Trust, and the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare. To strengthen his leadership skills and knowledge, he has also been selected and trained as an Education Change-maker by YALI Regional Leadership Centre Southern Africa, Trevor Noah Foundation and USAID, Youth Practitioner by Youth Empowerment Transformation Trust, and as a Youth Sustainable Development Goals innovator by Global Institute for Youth Development. Ntokozo has also served in a number of national, regional and international bodies: served as the Country Leadership Committee for Global Mental Health Peer Network representing Zimbabwe from 2020 - 2022, Lived Experiences Advisory Board Member at Generation Mental Health (USA) and currently he is a Lifetime Honorary Member at Global Mental Health Peer Network. He also presented on the opportunities and challenges of the School Peer-2-Peer Mental Health Workers project during the London World Federation for Mental Health Congress in 2022.
