Definition: Climate resilience is the ability to anticipate, prepare for and respond to hazardous events, trends or disturbances related to climate. Therefore improving Climate Resilience involves assessing how climate change will;create new or alter current climate related risks and taking steps to better cope with the risks. Note:Participating countries MUST put up strategies to increase resilience of their communities. Ensuring introducing early warning systems in place, meteorology issues handled, good agronomical practices by use of Climate smart Agriculture. Priority should be on decision making and policies made and effected. Focusing on water, food security ,Health and sanitation and environmental sustainability (embrace MDG No.7) Creating more Climate Resilience:. 1.Activity Establish CCADRR structures (village, sub county, District and National) committees in both communities and institutions of learning. sub activities:(1) conducting base line and year end line surveys.(2)Setting up the community CCADRR structures.(3)Empowering and operationalizing the community CCADRR structures. Note:i.Develop action plans. ii Conduct periodical meetings for structures to review progress of action plans. Activity 2. Enhancing the sustainability of activities made by communities. Note: (i) Monitoring of CCADRR structures operation and do their capacity building.(ii) Monitoring DRRCCA action plans implementation (iii) Do reflection meetings with community made structures.(iv) Capacity building and strengthening for the DRRCCA structures. Activity 3 Hazard identification and analysis on climate change in participating countries. Note: (i) communal calendar of events that occur all year around. (ii) communities participation and continuous involvement in climate change intervention. (iii) sustainable adaptable measures (CSA). (iv) Setting up Early warning systems in all affected communities. (v) Identify and gazette evacuation centers. (vi) Action plans and contingency plans (vii) Child Centered DRRCCA activities.

Activity: Conducting End line surveys with house holds, Focus development Groups,Key informative stake holders for evaluation of projects. Advocacy through District Disaster Management Committees and Technical Advisory Committees for mainstreaming, dissemination and resources mobilization at district and National levels. Capacity building and facilitation of every activity to ensure continuity of objectives. A MUST Sustainability emphasis for all participants.

Dear colleagues, I recognize your participation in this noble cause. However, all ideas put on paper in the archives or library or kind of platform, is excellent except may turn to be a waste if not put to use with immediate effect. My humble question is: Is there any possibility for us participants to turn the gathered ideas on building community resilience into a reality???

Turning this into practical implementation is the way to meet sustainable future as far as 1MYAC concerns and for this, I urge the team to get involved in its vision. To do that an organization can become one as partner whilst individual can either contribute proposed concrete action concept for the approval and further implementation proceedings or choose from the standard actions on its website https://1myac.com/

Currently 1MYAC supports the following SDGs: Goal 6, (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13, (Climate Action), Goal 15 (Life on Land).
Hence, further communication on this please reach 1MYAC through info@1myac.com as per interest, and referencing this forum for your acknowledgment.

1. By protecting & restoring terrestrial ecosystems

2. By treating underlying causes of Climate Change and not just symptoms

3. By changing our mindset

4. By revising Climate Change policies in SADC

5. By being pragmatic (walking the talk)

6. By creating enabling environment

7. By promoting indigenous knowledge

Thank you for sharing this exciting information with us. What can an ordinary person do to contribute?

Climate change is here, and its impact are growing more severe and the impacts from severe droughts, storms, floods and rise in temperature affect vulnerable communities

Global efforts to slow climate change are promising but insufficient, in addition to prevent the worst impacts of climate to already present impact however climate resilience saves lives, reduces poverty and delivers strong economic return but building climate resilience cannot happen without climate adaptation or actions take to ensure that communities and countries alike can withstand climate risks therefore we have to create more climate resilience as follows

a) building resilience to drought in the such way that climate change is affecting rainfall patterns across the world. Rainwater harvesting and recharge systems that capture water on the roofs of buildings are commonly used to store water during drought and reduce flood risk during heavy rains. The collected water can be stored in tanks and used inside the building during periods of drought

b) secondly planting trees ... Another cost effective, nature based way to address these climate change is to plant trees or other vegetation around buildings in such way that roots of the plants act like sponges to recharge groundwater and during heavy rainfalls, the roots allow water to penetrate the soil and reduce the risk of flooding

c) Building resilience ot cyclones and strong winds .... Cyclones and expected to become more frequent and stronger with climate change. They can affect buildings in many ways, damaging the structures and foundations of the building

Roof design also plays an important role, strong connections between foundations and the roof are critical to building wind resilient houses

Climate resilience is the ability to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to hazardous events, trends, or disturbances related to climate. Improving climate resilience involves the following:

assessing how climate change will create new, or alter current, climate-related risks

Investigate options and prioritize actions

Take steps to better cope with these risks.

Act and continually improve.

Lastly, think about the future of the local community: what values and assets does this community provide; its resilience to climate change; and the ability of its residents to thrive in the face of changing conditions

By mobilizing people! Specifically, local communities and youth-networks. One example is the 1 Million Youth Action Challenge, which has a database of concrete environmental actions (also focused on actions relation to climate change) that individuals can do: https://1myac.com/en

We understand that climate change effects increase poverty in many dimensions per affected SADC member state. For example, in Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia and other SADC States we recently experienced cyclones causing destructions of many livelihoods and resources. During the first rains farmers planted seeds and then after the change of weather events we turned into long-term dry spells whereby farmers seeds got dried up and this affected mostly small-scale farmers without alternatives to water their crops. Hence large-scale famers sustained their farming production but to sell their products now its expensive that low-income households can not afford. But this is not the way of life, to create more climate resilience we need to get prepared in all seasons for instance we can do agriculture production in dry seasons if there are sponsors to support low-income farmers to plant double innovated and cheap water tank that harvest water during rainy season and drag underground water during dry seasons to revive agricultural production as the backup for a quick and exclusive climate resilience.
