PREPARE 10 Minutes
Show students a photo of a flying squirrel and its geographic location, or print and hand out the Flying Squirrels Reading Warm-Up background information.
Using the Animal Adaptations Flying Squirrel Activity teacher instructions, demonstrate how adaptations impact particular animals and species.

Walk students through the Polar Powers Project Worksheet and explain each section.
Use the Animal Adaptations Flying Squirrel Activity to model the investigation and demonstration process for the project.

PARTICIPATE 20-25 Minutes
Using the Brainstorming section of the Polar Powers Project Worksheet, groups may begin thinking about their animal and adaptations, and get teacher approval before starting the Procedure section. (Use KWL chart for ideas.)
Groups that finish the brainstorming portion early may begin working on their procedure and materials.
Check in with groups to help them locate materials they need for the demonstration.
