The Department of Basic Education In South Africa is committed to every child being enrolled at school at an appropriate age, attending school regularly and being supported to stay in school and reach their full potential. Every child has the right to quality education.

In South Africa, nearly all children are enrolled in school. But many face obstacles that result in poor achievement, as well as high absenteeism and dropout. Only half of those enrolled stay in school until Grade 12 and even fewer pass matric. The majority of youth exit our education system without the skills they need to study further, get jobs or start their own businesses
