The Ministry of Health is one of the largest government ministries in Seychelles, both in terms of its number of employees and the size of government budget allocated to it. It is divided into a Parent Ministry under the executive leadership of the Principal Secretary, a Health Care Agency under the executive leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, a Public Health Authority under the executive leadership of the Public Health Authority and a National AIDS Council under the executive leadership of a Chief Executive Officer.

The parent Ministry of Health is responsible for policy formulation and the monitoring and evaluation of macro-health indicators. The Ministry is also responsible for human resource development for the health sector through training and continuous professional development. Additionally, it is responsible for matters of international cooperation.

The Health Care Agency is responsible for preventive, curative and rehabilitative care in the primary, secondary and tertiary health care institutions. Its programmes extend into the homes and the community and overseas, through the overseas treatment programme.

The Public Health Authority is responsible for disease prevention and control through the implementation of the Public Health Act and policies and strategies for the prevention of non-communicable and communicable diseases.

The National AIDS Council is responsible for the coordination of the national response against the HIV/AIDS epidemic, sexually transmitted infections and other related infections.

The National Institute of Health and Social Studies has its own charter as a vocational training centre. Currently it functions very much as a division of the Ministry.
