Vision & Mission Statement
SMS is a successful multi-cultural English medium Christian Girls’ School with a long and distinguished history in the Free State.
The vision is to promote the development of independent, skilled and confident young women who are able to lead happy and fulfilled lives, and to contribute constructively to South Africa and the wider world.
Our mission is to provide an excellent learning environment for academic, sporting and cultural achievement while nurturing the emotional development of the girls in a caring environment. Based on our Anglican foundation, SMS develops the spirituality of the girls and staff and fosters its expression in the work of the school community.
The oldest girls’ school north of the Oranje River is situated in the city of Bloemfontein. A school rich in tradition and heritage.
First and foremost, SMS is a school where huge emphasis is placed on academic excellence with a 100 % pass rate for 36 consecutive years. We also look at the quality of results: SMS obtained a 100 % Bachelors pass (University admission) twice in the past three years. Our learners perform well in various academic competitions provincially and nationally.
SMS also boasts an extensive extra-curricular timetable where each learner has the opportunity to express herself outside the classroom situation. The arts and creativity thrive at SMS. Each young lady participates and thus learns many life lessons. In this small school environment with a family atmosphere, the theme of Love and Hope is lived on a daily basis.
Our Anglican ties, with an English ethos, are strongly embedded in our constitution, but also in our culture and daily routine. Each day starts off in the chapel, the heartbeat of the school.
