Dowa Secondary School is located in the central region of Malawi in the Dowa district. The school opened its doors in 1965 (45 years). Its reputation has gone far beyond the boundaries of Dowa.
Dowa is among the few schools that are benefiting from the FutureLife-Now! programme. This project is a partner in need as it embraced us in time of COVID-19 by providing preventive materials like masks to every student. In addition, as we know, Malawi usually has problems with electricity.
FutureLife-Now! provided us with solar power equipment, packed school bags containing drinking bottles, pens, and journals, the sickbay with the youth facilitator, materials for an e-platform, and much more.
On 14 October 2021 the school had a farewell party (graduation) for the form four candidates. Students received various awards such as best student in science subjects, English speaking, smartness, prefects and other categories. The ceremony was graced by the member of parliament of Ntchisi south, Ulemu Chilapondwa, delegated by Darington Halawa, member of Parliament of Dowa central.
In addition, 52 students were selected to the public universities of Malawi, out of the 97 students that passed the Malawi School Certificate of Education in 2020. Despite the closure of schools for more than six months due to COVID-19, Dowa is the top-performing school in the central east division of Kasungu education division.
