It’s Literacy Month! Literacy is the ability to read, write, and make meaning out written texts. It also includes numeracy and the ability to make simple mathematical calculations.

According to UNESCO, at least 765 million adults still cannot read and write, two thirds of them women, and 250 million children are failing to acquire basic literacy skills.

We have supported Foundation Phase educators in Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal to effectively teach learners in Grades 1 and 2 how to read, write and make meaning out of written text and diagrams since 2006.

We’ve also partnered with @dbe_za, @nalibalisa, fundzalittrust, A Better Africa Foundation, and SAPESI to tackle reading challenges in South Africa as well as elevate the importance of mother tongue in learning how to read and write. Follow us to learn more.

📚 #FunFriday! 🎉

Hey teachers! Let’s kick off the weekend with a little silly humour.

We know how hard you work, so here are some jokes to bring a smile to your face!

Why did the teacher go to the beach? To test the water!

🤣

Why was the math book sad? It had too many problems.

🤣

Why did the teacher wear sunglasses? Because her students were so bright!

🤣

Why did the teacher write on the window? Because she wanted the lesson to be clear.

🤣

Let’s spread some joy and laughter.

 Happy Friday! 🎉
