Update on the Spell2read2write programme Q1 2024

My name is Tania Van Rooy

I am a Teacher Assistant at Philipstown High School 

In Quarter 1 we completed the following activities of the Spell2read2write programme:ORF test, Consenants chart A and B, Vowel chart also capital letter and small letters and we also did some basic songs of the vowels sound with the learners. We did a spell test and created flash cards for the vowel and consenant letters. 

The highlight for the quarter was doing the Allison Courses and implementing some of the knowledge I gained in the classroom. The learners also enjoyed singing the vowels and consenants sounds(from the videos). 

The challenges I found were is that there are still learners who struggle with reading and spelling and also pronunciation. They were also unable to grasp the concept of new ways to learn and the importance of knowing how to learn. It is not easy for the learners to adapt to new ways of learning and that is the problem.
