UPDATE ON THE SPELL2READ2WRITE PROGRAMME TERM 1, 2024

My name is Beauty Jonkers.

I am a Teacher Assistant at Philipvale Primary School.

This is my update for term one of 2024.

In the first term we completed the following activities of the spell2read2write programme the vowels, the alphabet song, reading, and the ORF tests.

The highlights for the first term was  the learners were more excited and they participate more in the activities such as the alphabet song and the vowels, at first the kids were shy and did not feel comfortable with us but as time went on they started getting comfortable and worked together with us. The Alison course was something new for me as an assistant cause it taught me a lot and lots of new information this course hereby gives me a bigger picture regarding how to work with the kids and how to assess the kids as I work with them so that I can understand the kids more.

The challenges that I found in the first term was at first the learners were shy and not comfortable with me cause we were new to one another and as time when on we started to know each other and they start participated and the activities went on. Some of the learners are not yet ready for the activities that we have to do but we are trying our best to get them on track.

In the second term we will be focusing more on reading because as learned from the Alison course reading is one of the outmost important factors that are playing a part in the learning process of a learner in this case if a learner cannot read than the learner will not be able to spell and spelling is one of the activities which we have to work on.
