Mothupi Kgopa holds BSc Degree in Mathematics and studied BA Honours Degree in Journalism from University of the Witwatersrand.He joined teach South Africa in 2010 as the ambassador teaching mathematics and science at Thuto Lesedi Secondary in Vosloorus. In 2011 Kgopa was awarded teacher of the year by the school.

In 2012 he began a long career in teacher development as Mathematics Coach at Pearson with the role of helping 11 primary schools in Mabopane improve their results in mathematics from below 20% to 60% within two years. This target was achieved in 9 schools with the other two schools closer to that target. This was done through teacher lesson observations, monthly workshops for teachers, learners training and development and lesson plan improvement.

2014 saw Kgopa become mathematics lecturer with the role of improving maths results for tool engineering students in four campuses at Ekurhuleni East College, DENEL, NECSA and Tshwane Leadership and Management Academy.

Cyril Ramaphosa’s Shanduka trust kick-started work in Free State to help improve mathematics, physical science, English and Accounting results. Kgopa was hired as mathematics Mentor, training mathematics teachers who were bused from Free State to Gauteng hotels. The role of a mentor included school visits, lesson demonstration and observations, and assistance with improvement strategies.

Mothupi then helped improve results to average 72% and also got 3 schools out of 9 schools to achieve 100% in mathematics for the first time and helped maintain that for three consecutive years with many learners achieving distinctions in mathematics. His mentorship at Kagiso Shanduka Trust started in 2015 and ended in 2021.

Heymath! A mathematics software company from India was given a contract to help teachers in Free State, Northern Cape and Western Cape. The company hired Kgopa for four years to manage 78 schools in mathematics.
