Nondumiso Mangali

I am the Teacher Assistant at Maruping Primary School.

This is my update for Quarter 1 of 2024.

In Quarter 1, we completed the following activities of the spell2read2write programme:

ORF test

Chart A consonants and video

Chart B consonants and video

Vowels and video

Consonants and video

Completed the course

The highlight for the Quarter was that the priority learners were so excited.

They gained more confidence everyday.

There's a lot of improvements in their reading and pronouncing the letters.

The challenges I found were: at first learners were scared to pronounce letters and read the story.

There are some few learners who are  still struggling to differentiate between a vowel and the consonant.

Difficult also to pronounce some of the vowels as they are pronounced in English.

It was not easy to get the priority learners in this month as they were  also writing their final tasks for this term.

In the next quarter I will focus on the reading.

I'll assist the learners in reading.

I'll give them more activities to teach them the differences between the vowels and consonants e.g giving them a consonant word G_m and they will put a correct vowel which is - e - or - u - Gem or Gum etc.

Thank you.
